In Doctor Who time travel is simple. All you need is a black hole and a T.A.R.D.I.S. But is it possible for the rest of us?

If you have not yet seen “Avengers: Endgame” then I must warn you there is a slight spoiler in this article. Everyone has been speculating for over a year that there will be time travel in the movie. I can begin discussing time travel in general without spoiling the movie but if you read on you’ll find yourself stumbling into a small spoiler. So consider yourself warned. Meanwhile, I’ll just remind everyone that our favorite time traveler is capable of doing far more than what the rumors about the movie suggest.

One of the rumors I saw suggested the Avengers would travel to the quantum realm in order to take advantage of time travel. Time travel is not based on making things small in Doctor Who. Instead, the Doctor uses a ship called a T.A.R.D.I.S. (Time and Relative Dimension in Space). The T.A.R.D.I.S. draws upon the energy of a black hole to move through time, and perhaps other properties of the black hole. But the T.A.R.D.I.S. also travels through “the Time Vortex”, which is a bit of mumbo jumbo that makes it easier for the audience to assume that the 1-billion-year-old Time Lord civilization knows a thing or two about physics and the universe that we have yet to discover. Time Travel is magic.

Is There a True Star in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’?

Now that I have seen “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” three times I cannot help but wonder if Daisy Ridley has been under-used in her role.  A lot of people are comparing her to Luke Skywalker in “A New Hope” but she’s really not that important to the overall story.  Finn is the character who makes things happen in “A Force Awakens”.  He rescues Po Dameran, he saves Rey and BB-8 from the Stormtroopers, he persuades BB-8 to reveal where the Resistance base is located, and he helps the Resistance plan their attack on Starkiller Base.  None of that would happen without Finn.

And then he insists on going back to rescue Rey himself, so even though her Force powers were awakening by the time Han, Finn, and Chewie got to the base Rey wasn’t really critical to the plot.  This bothers me because much as I like Finn (and John Boyega) I was really expecting the movie to be about Rey.

I Hope Edward Snowden Burns in Hell for Paris and Lebanon

First there were the bombings in Beirut and then the attacks in Paris.  Because Edward Snowden told the world how Al Qaeda and its allies were being tracked by the western intelligence agencies they changed their methods of communication.  Now we had no warning about these attacks.  And while Snowden was tweeting up a storm about his latest disclosures yesterday he vanished like a coward when people demanded to know how he felt about the Paris attacks.  No one should be paying attention to this lying pig any more.  He has blood on his hands.  I hope he burns in 7 hells for ten eternities.
